Health psychology
The health unit looks at how biological, cognitive, and sociocultural factors may affect our health. We look at the origin of health problems - such as stress and obesity. In addition, we will look at how psychologists attempt to change people's behaviours and the obstacles to change. Finally, we will look at specific health programs and why they were (or were not) effective.
- To what extent can we prevent health problems?
- To what extent do biological, cognitive, and sociocultural factors play a role in health?
- Why do prevalence rates of health problems change over time?
- Which health promotion strategies are the most effective in changing a population’s health?
