Abnormal psychology
This unit focuses on the complexities of psychological disorders and why it is not easy to determine the reasons why people develop them. The unit starts by looking at factors that influence diagnosis. Then we will examine the role of biological, cognitive, and sociocultural origins of disorders. Finally, we will look at how the etiology of a disoder is linked to treatment options.
- Why do prevalence rates of disorders change over time?
- What role do biological, cognitive, and sociocultural factors play in disorders?
- Why are mental health problems difficult to diagnose and treat?
- How does mental illness affect the individual, their family, and their community?
