4. Britain 1929 - 1939
In 1929, Britain was on the eve of an economic crisis. However, at the time of the 1929 election, there was no sign that this was about to hit Britain and it was assumed that the economic improvements of the late 1920s would continue.
However the impact of the Great Depression, would lead to the end of Labour's hopes of leading the country, and to the renewed dominance of the Conservative Party. It also had a profound impact on British people - particularly the working classes.
