This section will give you access to examination questions and responses, leading to detailed guides and analyses on how to write an effective response and examiners' feedback.
Paper 1 Questions
By definition, Paper 1 is an unseen text analysis. For this reason, it's not so easy just to give example questions since it could be about any non-literary text. Exemplar texts and responses can be found in Paper 1 - Sample texts and student work and in Paper 1 - Dealing with Infographics, with further guides on how to go about planning, structuring and writing Paper 1 responses in Paper 1 - Writing a Guided Textual Analysis.
However, in a sense the questions for Paper 1 are now essential since it is not just a textual analysis (formerly / also known as a commentary) but it is a guided analysis. You, as students, must address the guiding question (or reject it and set your won - hot tip: avoid this!). Having a sense, then, about what the guiding questions look like is essential to helping you write a response.
Past Paper 1 (Guiding) Questions
Please note, the latest are from the most recent set of examinations. I notice a trend towards more specificity of these questions, really providing you as students with a clear, interpretative thesis in the guiding question / statement. This would suggest that your task is to identify tools and techniques that help to create this outcome.
