This question proved very difficult and did not discriminate well. Most students answered D, and may have assumed that X represented a group of zygotes. The question was taken from section 3.5 of the guide which states that ‘animals can be cloned at the embryo stage by breaking up the embryo into more than one group of cells’, but this may not have been clear in the diagram which was criticised for several reasons.
