For teachers new to IB Chemistry

Who this section is aimed at

This section of the site is for existing teachers in schools that are taking up (or considering taking up) the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and for those teachers with no previous experience of the IB who will be taking up a Chemistry teaching post in an existing IB school. If you are already an experienced IB Chemistry teacher then it might be worth skimming through to see if there are any gems that might interest you. For example, teaching Standard and Higher Level students together in the same class or some of the information from the statistical bulletin but you should essentially already be familiar with all of its contents. 

What is does (and does not) contain

Getting started’ does literally cover just the basics to get you underway. It starts with the philosophy of IB Diploma Chemistry and how it differs from teaching Chemistry in your own national system of education. It then looks at some essential resources for you to consider, how the syllabus is set out and operates and how to draw up a teaching schedule (with an actual example from one of the top IB schools). For those areas that are likely to also be of interest to experienced teachers you will need to go to other sections of the site (I’ve provided links in relevant places) to find out more details and many tips and examples. This includes, for example, all you need to Teach each sub-topic on the core/AHL and the Options. everything on Practical work and the Internal Assessment, the External Assessment (Exams), the  IB Core (TOK, EE, CAS and Learner Profile) together with hundreds of new Multiple choice questions arranged in tests by topic and a huge amount more including many resources and examples of how you can include TOK, The Nature of Science, Utilization and International -Mindedness in your Chemistry lessons etc. etc….
